October’s Author of the Month: Margaret Atwood

October’s “Author of the Month” is Margaret Atwood. Atwood was born in Ottawa, Canada on November 18, 1939. She realized that she wanted to be a published author at age 16, and began to publish various writings once she went to college. Atwood is now best known for her seminal science fiction novels, which often predict dire and dystopian futures for the world. Perhaps her most iconic work is The Handmaid’s Tale, which envisions a future where women are subjugated by the religious right in North America. Other important books include Oryx and Crake, The Year of the Flood, MaddAddam, The Blind Assassin, The Testaments, and The Penelopiad.
